Mechelen stands proudly alongside Antwerp, Bruges, Ghent, Brussels and Leuven as one of Flanders' most prominent art cities. Being a centre for artistic production during the Northern Renaissance, earned Mechelen an impressive history and armed tourists with so many reasons to visit. While it is perhaps one of the lesser visited Belgian cities, Mechelen is most definitely still worth exploring with a short break by Eurostar.

The local breweries of Mechelen are a good place to start when you visit and tourists hold the fine restaurants in high regard too. Take to the picturesque streets of Mechelen and explore Grote Markt, St. Rumbold's Cathedral and the belfry  – both UNESCO World Heritage sites, Brusselpoort, the Nekkerspoel Toy Museum, the Kruidtuin or "Botanique" inner city park with marble statue of the world famous 16th century herbalist Rembert Dodoens alias Dodonæus and the animal park Planckendael in Muizen.
