The Pompidou Centre in Paris houses the largest collection of modern art in Europe, and is one of the most talked about, purpose built modern art galleries in the world.
During the seventies President Georges Pompidou wanted to establish an original institution in the centre of Paris that only focused on modern and contemporary works in all aspects of art, from the visual, to theatre, music, cinema, literature and the spoken word.
The building was designed by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers, whose architecture itself is a 20th C work of art, opening its doors to the public in 1977 and since then the centre has been one of the most visited attractions in France.
