Eurotunnel broke its traffic record this summer, carrying a total of 14,975 passenger vehicles through the Channel Tunnel on 14 August.A new daily record for Folkestone-Coquelles traffic was achieved on 23 July, when Eurotunnel carried 9,382 vehicles, including cars and coaches, while in the other direction a record of 8,869 was set on 29 August.
From 1 July-31 August, the company saw the number of cars carried on its passenger shuttles rise by 17% year-on-year to 533,238.
Eurotunnel attributed the growth to the ‘considerable flexibility’ of its operations, with departures every ten to fifteen minutes at peak times.
