This season Paris’ Fashion Week was laid heavy with feathers, furs, leather and intricate hand-sewn details, but at the Carrousel du Louvre something refreshingly different was shaking off the shoulders of models. For four days designers from all over the world showcased their works at the Ethical Fashion Show, bringing to the city an eco-friendly and socially conscious take on fashion.
The trade show, in it’s fifth year, set out to prove that fashion can be trendy and inspirational without the corruption of our earth’s precious resources or the degradation of human life in sweat shops. Each designers collection utilised organic fabrics, recycled and raw materials and a production that promoted fair trade and investment in social projects in underprivileged communities. It began in 2004 at the hand of Founder Isabelle Quéhé with just twenty designers showcasing their goods. This year well over a hundred ethical fashion designers came together for conferences, round table discussions, trade and, of course, runway shows.
